American One Racing (A1R) Wraps Successful High-Performance Foiling Camp
Pensacola, Florida | October 6-12, 2024 – American One Racing (A1R) announces the successful completion of its second annual high-performance foiling camp, held in Pensacola, Florida, October 6th to 12th, 2024. The week-long camp brought together elite athletes, world-class coaches, and key partners in an intensive, performance-driven environment designed to elevate athletes’ technical, physical, and strategic capabilities.
A Culture of Excellence and Growth
A1R’s foiling camp underscored the program's unwavering commitment to performance. Athletes were challenged to push beyond their limits, embracing every opportunity to grow. Set against the backdrop of Pensacola—home of American Magic’s training base—the camp provided a world-class setting focused on long-term, process-oriented development.
"This camp reflected A1R’s vision of excellence, providing athletes with the expertise and collaborative environment essential for success at the highest level. For the elite athletes, this camp reaffirmed the type of training required to reach the top of our sport, and for the younger foilers, it was a powerful introduction to elite training,” said Leandro Spina, A1R’s High Performance Director.
Highlights of the Week
The camp kicked off with a joint event with the Pensacola Yacht Club (PYC) Youth Program on October 5th and 6th. Local youth sailors were introduced to foiling through hands-on activities in the Melges’s Nikki, Skeeta, and Switch foiling boats. This provided a glimpse of A1R’s high-performance pathway, designed to inspire young sailors to pursue foiling at the highest levels.
Each day of training began with a fitness activation session led by Olympic gold medalist and fitness expert Anna Tobias. Athletes engaged in physical conditioning as the foundation for daily training, supported by cutting-edge sports science including performance analytics, recovery strategies, and nutrition guidance. Sailors also received presentations from top experts in the world, such as James Lyne, Quantum Racing Expert and multi-time World Champion coach, covering a wide range of topics such as mental resilience, advanced foiling techniques, race strategy, and the latest in sports technology. These insights equipped athletes with the knowledge needed to elevate their performance to the next level.
Expert Coaching and Support
A1R’s success is built on its elite coaching team and expert support staff. The Waszp Class was led by World Champion Ravi Parent, while World Champion Fiona Wilde directed the X15 Class. Olympic coaches Adrien Galliard and Pedro Pascual spearheaded the Wingfoil and IQ Foil classes, respectively. Further expertise was provided by gold medalist Anna Tobias and World Champion coach Maximo Nores. Renowned coach Grant Spanhake offered technical insights, data analytics, and drone operations across all classes, while Luther Carpenter (coached five Olympic medals), and Charlie McKee (two medals competing, two medals coaching) provided invaluable coaching support, collectively elevating athlete performance throughout the week.
Key Partnerships Fuel Success
The ongoing success of A1R is made possible by its partnerships with industry leaders. During the camp, athletes engaged with key supporters, whose contributions are integral to A1R’s mission of developing world-class talent:
Quantum Racing / American Magic
Sailing Foundation of New York
America One Foundation
Windmark Foundation
Pensacola Yacht Club
G&B Ropes
Oakley
These partnerships provide the financial, technical, and equipment resources that enable A1R athletes to compete at the highest levels of the sport.
Looking Ahead
American One Racing (A1R) will continue working closely with its partners to ensure ongoing support for its initiatives and strengthen its ties within the broader sailing community. With upcoming regattas and international competitions on the calendar, A1R is developing tailored training programs, prioritizing skill development and strategic growth for each athlete.
In 2025, A1R will expand its use of innovative sports science tools and data-driven technologies to enhance training outcomes. The organization will also soon announce its 2025 schedule of events, including training camps, competitions, and community engagement activities designed to keep athletes motivated and deeply connected to the sport.
Quotes from athletes:
“This training camp was exceptional for a multitude of reasons. Primarily, it fostered a relationship between Makani and I which we leveraged to prepare him for the upcoming IQFoil youth worlds.
The support from A1R cannot be understated and I am extremely grateful for the continued efforts to help us win gold in 2028.
Noah Lyons, Olympian 2024
“I am so thankful to America One Racing for all the support they provide the Waszp team throughout the year. Without the support of America One Racing and its partners it would be impossible to campaign for the 2025 Waszp World Championship. Thank you to America One Racing, G&B Ropes, Quantum Racing, Oakley, and all the supporters of the team.”
