A1R ILCA 7 team putting in the hours at Florida Training Camps

The AmericaOne Racing ILCA7 squad has been hard at work in preparation for their World championships happening in January in Adelaide, Australia. This event gives another 7 countries the chance to qualify themselves for a spot at the 2024 Olympic Games, with the USA hoping to be one of them.

First up was a 2 week camp at the Clearwater Community Sailing Centre in west Florida, with easy access to the Gulf of Mexico, and a great range of conditions from Northerly cold fronts to SW sea breezes. A lot of hours were spent hiking, getting the legs conditioned for Adelaide, and upwind trim, plus a big focus on downwind speed and kinetics with the great swell and waves that we had. Tons of video analysis and discussions on techniques and ideas meant the group pushed each other for the whole time, culminating in some intense racing days.

The Clearwater team was - Leo Boucher, Marshall McCann, Ford McCann, James Golden, Guthrie Braun, and guest Malcolm Lamphere.

Next stop was Miami Yacht Club, venue for the Olympic trials in February. We wanted to get some more familiarity with the venue, plus work on speed and trim in the unique conditions that it offers, and run a bunch of races in the areas that the trials would be held in.

For this camp the team was Leo Boucher, Marshall McCann, Ford McCann, James Golden, Devon Owen, and guests Malcolm Lamphere, Clay Johnson, Ernesto Rodriguez (fresh from his Pan-Am Silver medal) and Canadian team sailor Ryan Anderson. Having 9 boats made for some excellent and really competitive racing similar to what they can expect at the trials.

Miami gave us all the conditions it had to offer from 12ft waves to light sea breezes and everything in between, making it the perfect camp.

Malcolm Lamphere (past US and North American ILCA Champion) “It was great to get most of the mens ILCA sailors training together on domestic waters. Without the support and coaching from AmericaOne Racing, training on the ocean in international quality conditions would not have been possible.”

Leo Boucher (past North American Champion and OCR winner) “This falls A1R Florida training was a great way to work in a close group on a lot of minute details in our sailing. It also allowed us a chance to get on the Olympic trails race-course in a variety of conditions that will pay dividends in the future. It helped to set goals for the rest of the winter training block, big thanks to AmericaOne Racing for making it possible.”

Massive thanks to AmericaOne Racing for all the support in helping to make these camps happen.
