A1R Waszp Team- International Waszp Games Report

This past week Jaxon Hottinger, Bryce Huntoon, and Gavin Ball competed in the International Waszp Games in Sorrento, Australia. This event had a unique and exciting schedule mixing slalom, distance, and fleet racing formats. Unfortunately due to uncooperative weather we could only complete the fleet racing series which consisted of 10 races in wind ranging from 8-24kts. The strong current on the racecourse made starting tricky and occasionally kicked up a short yet steep sea state. All 3 sailors pushed hard throughout the week, making big improvements in sailing technique, boat setup, and racing decision making. Gavin also had a personal best finish of 6th place! This Hawaii-based group represented our US fleet and A1R very well both on and off the water.

Up next on their schedules is the Waszp Americas Championship at their home venue of Kaneohe Yacht Club in March. After promoting the regatta at the Games, we expect many international sailors are making plans to sail at this perfect foiling venue, and you should too!
